On average, how many showers do you take a week?
For most people, taking a shower every day is normal, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Showers are a good way to prepare for bed or wake up in the morning; they provide a relaxing time to think through things away from the noise of modern life. In the middle of winter, taking a nice hot shower anytime I want is one of the many miracles of modern life.
When working at a summer camp I no longer had the luxury of walking 10 feet from my bedroom; I had to leave my tent and walk hundreds of feet in the freezing night to wash off in a shower house filled with bugs. I realized for most staff, going through this ordeal every time was sometimes too much trouble. For many staff it would be common to take 2-3 showers per week only when needed.
While working there I realized showers are like a lot of things in life, for most people the amount needed varies. If you sit at a desk in an air-conditioned office all day, you probably don’t need to take as many showers as someone who works in landscaping or construction. In winter I tend to take showers more often; their a nice way to get warm after coming in from the cold. In summer I tend to take less with one exception; I go to the gym a lot more often when in the warmer months of the year and I always take a shower after going to the gym.
What are some of your most interesting shower thoughts? I’ll have to think of some next time I take one?
